The big danger is that, if the far UVC light source does not block longer-wavelength light from passing through the bulb envelope, it can still be dangerous. Manufacturing quality could play a large part in making this technology safe in the future, but small differences in wavelength can make a big difference in the effect on human health.
Xenon (Xe) light sources offer relatively smooth emission from UV to the visible spectrums, with characteristic wavelengths emitted from 750-1000 nm. For UV light characterization, an irradiance method is employed. Irradiance is the amount of energy emitted at each wavelength from a radiant sample, which in this case would be the UV lamp. From the data gathered, intensity values can be calculated. To be considered in the UV range, the light emitted will have to be between 100-400 nm.

UV Flashlights put out light at around 390nm, cost a few dollars and are easily used. Try to avoid looking at the light, but 390nm isn’t too bad, and should do what you want. You can also get keyring sized UV torches that are about the same size as a small car alarm fob. These would be suitable to have on you.
